Our Founder
TIG AFRICA was established by Dr. Josephine Wapakabulo following her time as the founding CEO of Uganda’s National Oil Company. Dr. Wapakabulo is an award-winning innovator and published author passionate about creating business opportunities and solutions that promote sustainable prosperity across Africa.

Our Founder
Josephine Wapakabulo founded TIG Africa after serving as inaugural CEO of Uganda’s National Oil Company (UNOC) where she spearheaded the commercial aspirations of Uganda’s nascent Oil & Gas sector, securing over USD$15 billion in projects with regional and global partners. Under her leadership UNOC put in place policies and agreements that aligned to the IFC environmental and social risk standards, in addition to ensuring local participation and community development throughout Uganda’s petroleum value chain.
An electrical engineer with a PhD in data modelling & standards, executive MBA from INSEAD and executive training in Oil, Gas & Mining Governance from Oxford University, she spent eight years at Rolls-Royce plc where she was an award-winning innovator and published a book on the strategic importance of data standards for international organizations.
Building on over 20 years’ corporate, entrepreneurial and board experience, Dr. Wapakabulo, through TIG Africa, works with investors and entrepreneurs to launch and build companies across Africa that foster sustainable development, while still creating positive returns, with particular focus on the Renewable Energy and Technology sectors. She is a Board member of Cheesecake Energy which aims to create the greenest battery storage in the world using compressed air and repurposing long-lasting, proven industrial components from existing automotive, oil and gas equipment supply chains. Dr. Wapakabulo is currently CEO of Downforce Technologies, which uses remote data to measure natural capital to promote regenerative agriculture and nature-based solutions to restore biodiversity and draw down carbon. She is also an Adjunct Teaching Fellow at the University of Western Australia and an Advisory Board Member of the Bloomberg New Economy Forum.
